01 · Data controller

Who is responsible for your data.

The controller of personal data collected through this website is Isabel Carapeta, based in Portugal. You can reach the controller at any time at contact@carapeta.pt for anything relating to your data or these policies.

Processing is governed by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Portuguese law. If you believe your data is not handled correctly, you may lodge a complaint with the Portuguese supervisory authority, the CNPD (Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados).

02 · Privacy policy

What we collect, and why.

This site is intentionally minimal. We only process data that we genuinely need, for clear purposes, and never to make you more predictable to a third party.

Newsletter

If you subscribe, we store your email address to send new essays. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by writing to us. We do not sell or rent your address.

Contact & enquiries

When you email us or use a contact link, we process the details you provide to respond to and manage your request. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in handling enquiries, or steps taken at your request before entering an agreement.

Analytics

If you accept optional cookies, we use privacy-respecting analytics to understand what people read, in aggregate. The legal basis is your consent. Essential-only visitors are not tracked for analytics.

Retention & sharing

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law. We may share data with processors who help operate the site (for example email or hosting providers), always under appropriate agreements and, where relevant, safeguards for transfers outside the EU/EEA.

03 · Cookie policy

How cookies work here.

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them in two categories, and you control the optional ones from the banner that appears on your first visit.

Essential

Needed for the site to function and to remember your cookie choice. Always on; no consent required.

Analytics (optional)

Aggregate insight into which pages and essays are read. Set only if you choose "Accept all".

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by clearing this site's cookies in your browser, which will bring the banner back on your next visit. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site from working.

04 · Your rights

You are in control.

Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data, correct it, erase it, restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting prior processing.

To exercise any of these rights, write to contact@carapeta.pt. We respond within the timeframes required by law.

05 · Terms of use

Using this site.

The content on this site, writing, images, the wordmark and the brand system, belongs to Isabel Carapeta and is protected by copyright and related rights. You may read and share links to it; you may not reproduce or republish substantial parts without permission.

The essays and talks are opinion and analysis, offered in good faith but without warranty; they are not financial, legal or investment advice. Any decisions you make remain your own.

These terms and policies are governed by Portuguese law, with the courts of Portugal having jurisdiction. We may update them from time to time; the "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
